How many appointments do I need?

Often one to two, occasionally more if the inflammation is pronounced.

The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic. Mild pressure sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal.

What if the treatment does not succeed?

Options are a repeat treatment, an apicoectomy or, as a last step, extraction with a later implant.

Saving an inflamed tooth

When the nerve inside a tooth is inflamed, root canal treatment removes the infected tissue and seals the canal system, so the tooth can stay.

Fine and curved canals become visible.

The canal length is measured precisely, which protects the root tip.

The tooth is fully anaesthetised during treatment.

Canals are shaped, disinfected and dried.

Filling and restoration
The canal is sealed and the tooth restored, often with a crown.

A root-treated tooth loses substance and becomes more brittle. A crown or a partial ceramic restoration protects it from fracture.

We plan this final step together with the root canal treatment, so the tooth is protected as soon as the inflammation has settled.
