How the treatment works

Diagnosis
X-ray or 3D scan of the root and the surrounding bone.

Access
The gum is opened over the root tip under local anaesthetic.

Resection
The root tip and inflamed tissue are removed and the canal is sealed.

Closure
The gum is sutured; stitches come out after about a week.
When is an apicoectomy the right choice?
It is considered when a root canal treatment has not resolved the inflammation, when a post or crown makes a repeat treatment impossible, or when a canal cannot be reached from inside the tooth.
